I am sure anybody watching maddy and me get into our car will think chivalry is alive and kicking.
He first comes over to my side of the car, opens the door for me, closes it after i get in and only then does he go to the driver's side and get in himself.
I bet the last thing they would think of is that the lock on the driver's side of the door is jammed and therefore the car can only be opened from the passenger's side!!
Am enjoying it while it lasts! ;p

Depressed.
Yesterday, two horrible things happened.
First, the plane crashed. Not in my part of the city but since we are not far from the begumpet airport, they would often fly close to our apartment building. From my balcony, i could see 2/3 planes flying together. Though they did not do anything fancy, the very sound they made would get my heart beating faster and hair stand on end. It was awesome.
And then we got to know that one of them had crashed and the pilots had died and i for one, am feeling so so so sad...it was like i almost knew them. We have decided that come Sunday we will STILL go to the airshow.
The second horrible thing i got to know from my mom. She called, first to enquire if we were fine post the crash and second to warn me NOT to watch sun tv especially with arjun around. I actually forgot all about the call since i was kind of mourning the crash but come evening and maddy had heard about the news too. So he switched on the television.
I am no fan of godmen nor of actresses. But what i saw on tv physically repulsed me. NOT because a so called holy man was making out...as far as i know, hindu priests are not required to take any vow of celibacy and everybody is entitled to a personal life. But what kind of a mind would stoop to such a level where they go about installing a camera knowing exactly what the camera is going to capture and worse...how can a television channel air something like this?
Something very wrong happened yesterday and i think the swamiji is the least of our problems.

Maid for each other
I couldnt wait to tell maddy about how my maid told me that i was the most hard working among all the women she worked for.
So i gushed to him about how she told me i cook and then i drop jun and then pick him up again and do the clothes....till maddy stopped me with an exasperated look.
"Arch, all she is saying is that we are terribly middle class..we dont have a cook, we dont have a driver....get it?"
Sometimes it helps to remember why i married this man ;p

Another one bites the dust!
I just read that Archie is going to get married....and to Veronica!!!!
Poor poor poor Betty.
Like most girls, I could relate more Betty than to Veronica.
BUT
I am thrilled for Archie. Really.
He was clearly more besotted with Veronica then he ever could be with anybody else. He is marrying the woman of his dreams AND his fantasies...a good thing for anybody!!!
BUT
Betty ?
Betty will most probably hurt for a while, then will be too sensible to spend her life doing that so she would pick up, move on and would, in all probability, do better than an Archie.
Because, lets face it - as lovable as he is, at the end of the day, Archie is and always will be, a bit of a wus..
Give me single minded Jughead ANY day!! ;)

Grow Up!
Growing up is finding out
That things are not just wrong or right
Growing up is finding out
That life is not either black or white
Growing up, is one fine day,
Discovering, the colour grey

Observation
It is strange how so many mothers seem to have ensured that their children loved them, needed them, adored them, even worshipped them....but somehow left out 'respect them' from the deal.
It is not so strange that so many men can love, adore, need even worship their wives but somehow leave out 'respect' from the deal.
What then is the difference between a pet and a wife?

Holiday horror?
A holiday at your parent's home.
Makes you feel like a child again.
You become lazy, pampered and reckless.
You get your hair streaked violet (yes, you read right.)
And while you secretly think you look totally cool...
You hope when you go back,
Mr husband will still have a place
In his heart and home for you!

Love all!
I watched two pigeons
As they courted and flirted
They looked, they teased
They played in the breeze
They circled each other, and actually 'necked'
Then things got serious and they began to 'peck'
My heart filled with laughter
That rushed out to be heard
As i prayed there was no Muthalik
In the simple world of birds
As they courted and flirted
They looked, they teased

Change
No more folks round the corner. No more emergency calls home. No more importing idly batter. We are going to be on our own.
Maybe for the first time...no parents, no inlaws...just the three of us.
New place, people, language. New school, teachers and timings. New home, maid and milkman. Everythings going to change.
Change they say is good.
I shall know shortly.

...coz i'm not superstitious!
I love our resident black cat. He makes it impossible for most people in our colony to heed the most common superstition one has ever heard. Just as a car purrs to life, so does this little one, walking right across its path! People shudder, laugh hesitantly, look at their watches, say a prayer and continue on their way.
Some times, it just isn't convenient to be superstitious.

One for the road.
There really is no such thing as a 'Lady Driver'.
Because it is impossible to be very lady-like when one is driving.
Men and their fragile road-egos.
Bah!

Perspectives
How people can change always astonishes me.
Earlier, you see a love struck couple walking hand in hand and you smile wistfully.
Now you see one and think....."someday, you guys are going to have a huge row over who was supposed to pay the phone bill!" smirk smirk
Earlier, you see a baby and go awwwwwwwwwww
Now you see one and think ...boy, am i glad i crossed that stage!
Earlier, the kitchen is a place you visit to find something to eat.
Now, the kitchen is a place you live in while the rest of the world visits to find something to eat.
Earlier, nothing brings you more happiness than seeing the face of the love of your life.
Now, nothing brings you more happiness than seeing your maid everyday.
Earlier, when mom visited a furnishing/crockery shop, you would quickly excuse yourself and run to the sexy footwear shop next door
Now, you get totally turned on by those very shops you avoided like the plague.
Earlier you would never use the term 'turned on' with relation to anything that wasn't male and good looking.
Now, you apparently do.
c'est la vie!

Cricketing Chaos?
Disclaimer : I am not even half way through to being a cricket enthusiast.
Having said that, what i do know is that to function effectively as a team, people need to be able to get along fairly decently. And they need to feel a sense of loyalty. From this point of view, i fear for the IPL Teams.
I suspect the dynamics within each team in the IPL will be far more entertaining than their on field exploits. I wont be surprised if a whole new gendre of tabloids are born to feed off this event. "Robin Uthappa admits its easier to play against Bangalore when he thinks of its awful traffic". Ricky Ponting, on his dismal batting performance says 'For the money you are paying me, this is all you are going to get mate!
I can just see Team Management rushing to all the Team Building Programs flourishing today. Only, post the program, the players might chant 'I am special' over and over or worse, decide to focus on their 'Real' selves.
'Who am I?' 'What do i want from life?' Eternal doubts raised forever!!
My frivolous thought process apart, i have heard that the more developed nations now think India is a rich country post Mukesh Ambani's richest-man-in-the-world news and the IPL Auction. So organizations involved in charity and social developmental projects are now shifting their focus to Africa. They actually think India has it made. Harried Indians in those countries are trying desperately to get these people's attention back to the fact that it is the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer scenario. Who would have thought of such repercussions?
There is something so terribly unsettling about this whole thing.
